Sunday's Romedy

Ok so it is Sunday morning and I have nothing better to do right now than catch a movie. Thankfully, the one I caught just now was a Karan Johar produced and Kareena Kapoor starrer, and that is Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu. A romedy from the beginning to end. The film was fun to watch and yes...I will admit, disappointing in its climax. The film is about friendship, love and all that u can expect in a bollywood potboiler. You won't find yourself losing a smile from your face as you watch this. So the experience was not all that bad. I liked the concept the film had. It was about how an uptight architect Rahul (who has lost his job) meets a quick-witted hair stylist Riana in LA and after a night of drinks and debauchery ends up marrying her. They decide to annul the marriage, of course. But since Riana is not doing too well either in her career. She fails to pay her rents and is forced to come and live with Rahul. Their staying together makes them know each other better. And Rahul develops a one-sided romantic connection with Riana who approaches their relationship simply as friendship. And one day as Riana takes him for a walk back to her school, he unsuccessfully tries to kiss her and brings his friendship with her to the brink of ending. Of course, a lot else that happens in the film has been skipped here. Am sure you would like to see it yourself (if you haven't already). But the point is that they break up for a while. This is the point when Rahul starts feeling lost. He has been taken to India by Riana where he didn't want to be. That is because his domineering father and his socialite mother give him a tough time not allowing him to be him. In fact, his father tells him that there is going to be a visit from some businessman with whose daughter if he decides to marry, it will be very helpful for the family business. The problem with Rahul's parents is that they never listen to him. And they want him to be like them. So at the dinner with the deal makers, Rahul's mother reminds him to use chopsticks instead of using his fork. Seeing which Mrs. Bulani also asks her teen son to do the same. It is abominable, if you know what I mean, to see how these fake social butterflies and dragons won't let their children be who they want to be. Rahul loses it. Reveals what really happened in LA with him. Shocks all. And then tells his mother how it really doesn't matter whether he eats with his chopsticks or fork or his hand as long as he is doing what he really wants to do. He leaves the room and then heads straight to Riana's house who apologizes to him for the hurt she caused him and tells him that their marriage is annulled and she doesn't really want any relationship right now. But what they can be is friends. And the funny part and the most awkward one for Rahul is that she begins bride hunting for him. But as the film ends, we hear Rahul claiming that he is finally happy with his life though it may not be perfect. And perhaps, that's how I felt about this film as well. Not perfect, but it leaves you feeling happy.
