A Substitute History
Sometimes, I wonder whether any of us are aware of the entire history. One, of course, is the history of this world. Imagine how much more glorious would be the history of the entire universe.
The world where we live is but nothing compared to the infinite number of phenomenons existent in outer space. The Sun itself, without whose help no life could sustain itself on the planet, is capable of including millions of earths like ours.
We are part of a galaxy known as the Milky Way, which consists of billions of planets. And there are trillions of galaxies within this universe. Some now believe that there are actually seven universes.
The meta-physicists or the Mystics say that the universe is an illusion. While the physicists believe that it's infinite. So either there is none or there is infinity. Come to think of it. What are the chances of our being alone in such a vast universe as this. Within our own Galaxy, there could be an uncountable number of planets with the right environment to develop intelligent beings. And if that's so, if indeed we are alone, what a fantastic thing that means. Somehow the human species could pride itself on being the chosen one to unravel universe's mysteries and enjoy all its glories. The chosen ones.
Our planet has evolved slowly over billions of years. Starting with complete darkness, just about nothing till a Big Bang intervened and began the process of creation. Stars, then planets. Masses of chemicals. A combination of which led overtime to create a favourable environment for life to be. Living organisms emerged. And then we came. With a power that no other being possessed, the power to think.
We struggled. We made discoveries. We made tools. We thought of how we could make things better. We still do actually. We began with lawlessness, then we had kings, later colonial masters, from there to democracy. We've hated each other. We've had some great love stories too, especially when they appeared in fiction. It's been sort of like a movie. Where you have every kind of emotion personified. Ambition, folly, wisdom, treachery, everything.
